Around the end of the 7th century, Odilia of Alsace was born blind. Because of her afflication, she was rejected by her father, a French duke, and sent to live in a convent. But Odilia was happy there and at her baptism she miraculously gained her sight. Odilia’s ashamed father repented for the way he had treated his family and gave Odilia a castle to convert into a convent. Today, Odilia is the patron saint of the blind and anyone suffering from eye problems.
