Known also as Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, Edith Stein saw the immense value of women’s involvement in education, society and the Church. Her perspective came from a life of experience as a Red Cross nurse, professor, speaker and person of faith. During her life, Edith Stein transitioned from devout Jew to atheist to Catholic and ultimately to Carmelite nun. All of this she did throughout two World Wars. Edith Stein was killed at Auschwitz in 1942.
