13" Oil Painted Maple Wood Baroque Wall Crucifix

The Crucifix on a Baroque Cross is a masterpiece of sacred sculpture, capturing the supreme moment of abandonment and redemption with moving intensity, typical of the best art of Val Gardena. Every detail is crafted to convey the profound agony of Christ, from the finely carved crown of thorns to the pronounced ribs on the torso, a symbol of his suffering.

The expression on his face, serene yet suffering, with closed eyes, invites contemplation and reflection. The skill of our artisans shines through in the richness of the polychrome: the fair complexion is artfully shaded, while the loincloth gleams with leaf gilding, creating a magnificent contrast with the severity of the dark brown cross, whose trilobed edges are also finished with an elegant golden outline.

This sculpture is made following centuries of tradition: it is carved entirely from wood, hand-painted with oil colors, and finished with meticulous attention to anatomical and chromatic details, such as the vivid red blood trickles that accentuate the sacred drama.
