10.75" Angel Carrying Cross From Alaleona Chapel

Angel Carrying Cross From Alaleona Chapel

Inspired by the evocative Baroque compositions found within the Alaleona Chapel in Montegiorgio, this piece captures a profound moment of celestial devotion and theological weight. The central figure of the angel, depicted in a moment of active, solemn labor, embodies the traditional iconographic representation of the instruments of the Passion, bearing the cross as an emblem of sacrifice and redemption. Accompanied by playful putti who reach toward the sacred burden, the tableau masterfully balances the gravitas of religious suffering with the ethereal grace of divine messengers. This work finds its place within the thematic realms of Renaissance and Baroque religious art, Christian devotion, and the historical veneration of the Passion of Christ, serving as a contemplative study of spiritual duty and the weight of faith.
