Patron of Father, Carpenters, and Home sellers
Fun Facts
- He has no recorded words in scripture.
- He is not mentioned in the Gospel of Mark.
- He has two feast days.
Joseph was a carpenter from the town of Nazareth. He was engaged to Mary. Before he and Mary lived together, The Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary and told her that God had chosen her to be the mother of his son. An angel also told Joseph that Mary was pregnant with the son of god. “Do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. You are to name the child Jesus.” Joseph awoke and did all the angel told him to do. After Jesus was born in Bethlehem, an angel spoke to Joseph in a dream. “Get up, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt! Stay there until I tell you.” Joseph arose quickly and took Jesus and Mary to Egypt. Later they returned to Nazareth, where Joseph worked hard to take care of Jesus and Mary, whom he loved. Having died in the arms “arms of Jesus and Mary” according to the catholic tradition, he is considered the model of the pious believer who receives grace at the moment of death, in other words, the patron of a happy death.
