Vincent De Paul was born in France in1576. He was ordained a priest in 1600. A few years later, he was captured by Turkish pirates and sold into slavery. Saint Vincent escaped to France, where he brought the love and hope of Jesus to prisoners confined to the galleys. He serve in a parish near Paris where he started groups to help the poor and forgotten, the sick, and those in need of work. He went through the streets of Paris at night, seeking the children who were left to die. He founded orders of men and women to help the poor and afflicted, and bring comfort to all. Saint Vincent de Paul died in 1660, and he was canonized in 1737.
