Saint Perpetua
Died in Carthage 203

Perpetua, a young North African woman, was arrested and condemned to death for being a recent convert to Christianity. She and her baby were imprisoned but she said, “My prison became a palace for me and I would rather have been there than anywhere else in the world.” She was taken to the amphitheater to be put to death with the salve Felicitas and a small group of men. In spite of the coming ordeal it is recorded that the group appeared “joyful as though they were on their way to heaven.” After showing great courage in the arena Perpetua was martyred along with the others. She is a patron saint of martyrs. Her feast day is March 7th.
