Baptism of the Lord Woven Tapestry - Artist, John Nava
The tapestry of the Baptism of Christ is based on designs made by John Nava for the tapestries cycles of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. Nava's tapestries have gained international acclaim for "expressing the humanity of godliness and the godliness of humanity." - Sr. Rose Pacatte, FSP
This authentic tapestry was made by Flanders Tapestries in Belgium, who also produced the tapestries that hang on the interior walls of the Cathedral, ranging from 15 to 45 feet in height. Nava's design is called an "artistic innovation" for the way that Nava integrated twenty-first century technology with centuries-old artistic tradition. The Baptism of Christ tapestry hangs behind the baptismal font at the Cathedral. This authentic Baptism of Christ Tapestry has been autographed by John Nava.

St. John the Baptist
Born first decade BCE, Judaea, Palestine, near Jerusalem
Died 28–36 CE
Jewish prophet of priestly origin who preached the imminence of God’s Final Judgment and baptized those who repented in self-preparation for it; he is revered in the Christian church as the forerunner of Jesus Christ. After a period of desert solitude, John the Baptist emerged as a prophet in the region of the lower Jordan River valley. He had a circle of disciples, and Jesus was among the recipients of his rite of baptism. His feast day is June 24.
“It happened in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John. On coming up out of the water she saw the heavens break open and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him. And a voice came from the heavens, ‘You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased”.
